Name Anthony McSpadden
About Hi, and thanks for looking at my profile! I'm currently the Program Director for Maestro, the 24/7 classical music channel on WorldSpace Satellite Radio, which serves audiences in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. I also manage a staff of seasoned announcers, and serve as the lead host on our daily broadcasts. I started at WorldSpace in January of 2001, when Maestro had a tiny, tiny library. Since then, Maestro has become a beautifully balanced, well-oiled machine of broadcast precision (at least that's what my superiors and listeners tell me!). I enjoy the work I do, and...can you believe this? I actually can't wait for Monday to roll around..it's that cool at my job.

My love for music goes back to my childhood. I can't think of a time when music wasn't in my life. I managed a classical music record and CD shop when I was a teenager. You actually had to take a test to work there, and when I took it, the manager hired me on the spot after telling me that nobody had ever had a perfect score...until me. I later became assistant buyer of recorded music and head of classical at a chain of CD stores, but that company was sold out from under us. Next, I landed at Dallas' legendary WRR, Classical 101.1 FM, in April of 1991. Before long, I was made music director, and became responsible for programming the daily music.

Over time, I hosted morning drive, mid-days....pretty much all of it, and the station's ratings were the best they'd ever had, as far as I know. After nearly 10 years there, I was approached by Washington, DC based WorldSpace, the world's first satellite radio broadcaster, about coming to work for them, to build out a classical music channel. I couldn't turn that down, so off I went to DC. What a ride it's been! When I started, Maestro was poorly stocked with music, and repetitions were killing the audience. I've managed to build the channel into one of the 5 most listened to offerings we have, right up there with BBC and CNN, and have been favorably compared by many listeners to a quality often better than that of BBC3. I have executed a lean, mean playlist, built on variety between accessible, lesser-known works, to the familiar warhorses. I have a very clear understanding of what it takes to successfully program on the radio, and have assembled a really great team of air talent to compliment our broadcasts.

I'm proud of the work I've done at Maestro and WorldSpace. I can make you proud too. I'm a great manager, love people, I have a great sense of humor, which I inject into the daily work routine at the drop of a hat, I am an excellent writer, not just for copy, but all around. My knowledge of music is astounding to some people. Not just classical, either. Classical just happens to be my strongest suit.
