About I recently began working in radio as a hobby. My friend started a sports talk show at our campus radio station (WRIU) with a friend of his.

After a few weeks of being a dedicated listener and contributing what I could, I was recruited to be the "third man," which meant mainly fact checking at first. There were only two mics, so I was able to contribute more by giving hourly scores/news updates during their breaks.

Eventually this turned into fill-in hosting when one of the hosts couldn't make it. For personal reasons, my friend decided to cancel the show, the night before I was set to fill-in host. Though I had no idea how to work the buttons, nor did I have any sounds, promos, music, or even headsets, I decided I would try my hand hosting that night.

I enlisted the help of a friend who, oddly enough, was scheduled to fill-in that night in the role of the "third man" in my place. We enjoyed doing the show, and decided to continue. A problem developed when I tried to "reclaim" the timeslot my friend had vacated, which left without a show.

I do not want my on-air radio experience to end there, which is why I have found myself here. In only a short time in the air I think I have learned a lot. I still have a lot more to learn, but I think my experience and my potential make me suitable to continue.
