About My name is Johnny Rasta and Id love to be your next radio host.
So, how would you like a successful show to simply drop into your lap? Not a concept, mind you, but a tried, tested and true program thatll fit seamlessly into your format?
Wouldnt you at least listen to a show that brings in huge numbers of women 24-49, with fans in eight states and five countries? In 14 months, Back In The Day with Johnny Rasta: a history of funky music 101 has done all of that and more.
Not long ago, a lady called in and asked, can you play an Aretha songIm gonna knock on your door? I figured it out Until You Come Back To Me -- and played it. She called back, adding, you sure made a little lady in South Dakota really happy this morning.
SOUTH DAKOTA?! So, how did you find this show?
Well, my sister knows I listen to this music and insisted I had to catch your show.
Another regular called in each week, once adding I make my daughter listen too, so she learns the music Mom used to dance to.
Each week, Id tell listeners that Back In The Day was a lot like the ole Fat Albert cartoons if you didnt watch out, you just might learn something new about this wonderful music.
In fact, the only thing my show needs is a new home. The show was developed at WSUM 91.7FM, the student station of the University of Wisconsin, but since Im no longer a student, Ive been asked to give up the hours for current students on the waiting list.
Even though Im a radio lifer at heart, I could bring a lot of other journalism experience to your station. I was a sportswriter for 25 years including 15 years with the Milwaukee Shepherd Express. I went back to school in my 30s to gain my BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (May 01). During the 90s, I even spent some time as Night Sites and Sounds Rap Music Editor!
